NCCT Study Guide

The National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) Exam and National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT) Exam offered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) qualifies successful candidates as Certified Medical Assistants or Certified Phlebotomy Technicians.

Candidates who wish to take the NCMA Exam must first meet the eligibility requirements set by the NCCT.

* Candidate must be a high school graduate
* Candidate must have graduated from an approved program of study as a Medical Assistant or provide two years of experience verified by a physician.
Candidates who wish to take the NCPT Exam must first meet the eligibility requirements set by the NCCT.
* Candidate must be a high school graduate
* Candidate must have graduated from a phlebotomy course or approved program that was accredited by the US Department of Education or the State’s Department of Education.
* Candidate must have completed 25 venipunctures and 5 capillary draws and also performed any additional tasks required by the states.

To stay current with either certification, the candidate will need to show proof of continuing education credits in the amount of 14 clock hours. Both of the exams cost $135 with a $45 discount available to students. The tests are administered at computer-based testing centers located nationwide.

Candidates will be allowed to choose a test center nearest them at the time of applying. Most applications are done by paper. Many of the test sites may be outside computer-based sites, but rather at universities or community colleges. Candidates will receive their certification in the mail after successfully passing the exam.
