Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse Study Guide

The Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse Exam offered by the National Certification Corporation (NCC) qualifies successful candidates as neonatal nurses.

Candidates who wish to sit for the Neonatal Intensive Care Exam must first meet the eligibility requirements set forth by the NCC.

* The candidate should have a valid RN license issued from the US or Canada.
* The candidate needs at least two years of RN work experience, equaling at least 2,000 hours.
* The candidate should have been employed in Neonatal Intensive Care within the past two years.

Those who meet the requirement can begin the process by filing an application proving the aforementioned items have been fulfilled. The registration fee runs $250 for paper and pencil exams applied for online or $275 for the same test applied for by the mail. The computer based test costs $300 to apply for online and $325 if it’s applied for through the mail.

Those who wish to take the paper and pencil test can only do so once a year. The 2010 date falls on September 24th. The computer-based test can be applied for and taken all year long. The test is administered at over 100 different AMP Assessment Centers throughout the US. Candidates schedule their exam after successfully applying for the exam. The information on how to schedule a test date will come via the mail.

Candidates should be well versed in general assessment and management information, including but not limited to maternal history, physical assessment, nutrition, fluids, development care, gestational age, and pharmacology. The candidate should also know how to assess and manage pathophysiologic states.
