The Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam (PACE) is administered by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (NFPA) in order to gauge the level of competency of experienced paralegals.
All potential examinees must have at least 2 years of paralegal experience and they must meet the standard educational prerequisites. The PACE test aims to help professional paralegals expand their future roles in the industry.
The exam has 2 stages. Each level addresses various areas important to the profession:
* Tier I is about the broad topic of legal issues and matters concerning ethics. If the need arises depending on where you are sitting the PACE exam, a section allotted for laws that are specific to certain states will also be included.
* Tier II is all about specialty divisions.
If you are a paralegal professional, you should take PACE for your personal advancement:
* You will be able to validate your skills
* You can begin or continue building up your credentials
* You will be given higher regard by your clients and by the organizations that you belong to.
The PACE exam is completely voluntary and you can take it of your own accord at anytime.
You can take the online exam at any of the over 200 Sylvan Technology Centers.
If you haven’t taken it yet and are thinking of doing so, just consider that as the various regulations and proposals about the profession ensue, there will come a time in the not too distant future when all paralegals will be required to take the test. Having taken and passed it of your own desire to progress as opposed to having to take it because it is a standard requirement will always look better on any CV!
