The Examination in Radiography offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) qualifies successful test takers as radiographers.
In order to the sit for the Radiography Exam, a candidate must first meet the eligibility requirements of the ARRT.
* Candidate must have good ethics and morals, meaning they cannot be charged with any felonies or go against the principles of the ARRT.
* Candidate must have earned a degree in radiography or a related field. The ARRT must approve this education, which they will do in the application process. Another avenue allows the candidate to have accrued ample on-job experience to accommodate testing.
Those who wish to take the primary RAD Exam must first pay ARRT an examination fee of $200. The exam consists of 200 multiple choice questions. Of the 200 questions, 20 will be used simply for advancement of the test content for later sessions and are not used as part of the final grade.
Candidates will be asked to answer questions related to five key areas of radiography knowledge, including:
1. Radiation Protection Measures
2. Equipment Use and Operations
3. Image Production and Evaluation
4. Radiographic Procedures
5. Patient Care and Education
The RAD exam contains a great deal of information. Most students need to spend a few months preparing for the exam, with the knowledge that any area of the aforementioned topics may be covered in some form. A quality score depends on lengthy study sessions.
Candidates can schedule and take the exam at computer-based testing centers located conveniently throughout the US. The test can be taken any time of year.
