RHIA Exam and RHIT Study Guide

The Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) Exam offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) qualifies successful candidates as an RHIA or RHITs.

Both of these tests have eligibility requirements that candidates must meet in order to sit for them. In both cases, the requirements are the same.

* The candidate must meet the education requirements set by the AHIMA. Candidates who are seeking a degree can still take the exam if they fall in line with the requirements. The education requirement is typically completing a bachelor’s degree program accredited by the CAHIIM.
* Or the candidate could graduate from an HIM program.
The AHIMA offers their fees for a registration fee to all applicants. Those who wish to take the RHIA exam must pay $229 as members of the AHIMA or $299 as non-members. The same fees apply for those wanting to take the RHIT exam.

The exams are administered at Prometric computer-based testing centers located throughout the US. After having an application accepted, candidates will receive information on how to schedule their exam with the testing center. Candidates will be able to choose a convenient location to them. On the exam day, candidates should bring confirmation of their exam date, two forms of photo identification, and any other information that AHIMA requires.

After 90 days, those who do not pass either of these tests can schedule to retake the exam. The second time around should be a bit simpler since the overall layout and content of the exam would be known in advance.
