The SAT Reasoning Test offered by the College Board is used as a standardized college admissions test in the United States. Students typically take the SAT at the finale of their High School careers, as most major universities use the SAT as placement criteria.
The SAT current takes three hours and forty-five minutes to take. The student has to pay a $45 fee to take the exam, or $71 for international students. A perfect score on the SAT equates to 2400 points, while 600 equals the lowest possible score.
Currently the SAT has three separate portions:
* Math
* Critical Reading
* Writing
Candidates will be asked multiple choice questions during the math portion of the exam and critical reading portions. The writing portion requires applicants to submit short passages of direct-response answers to questions in the section. Each of the three portions carries a possible 800 points. A perfect score can only be achieved by acing the three separate sections.
Almost the entire test consists of multiple choice questions, with a few exceptions in the math portion and of course during the writing section. There are grid-in questions during the math portion, where the applicant is asked to answer math questions with various responses. Each different section also has subsections of information regarding the overall topic, like functions, algebra, geometry, etc. during the math portion. Applicants need to study a wide area of information in order to successfully pass the exam.
The SAT is offered seven times during a calendar year. The test is usually administered on Saturday mornings and administered at hundreds of locations nationwide.
