The Special Agent – Treasury Enforcement Agent (TEA) Exam offered by the United States Secret Service tests an applicant’s understanding of key subject matter in order to grant them agent status.
Applicants who wish to take the TEA Exam must first meet the requirements set forth by the United State Government.
* Applicants must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any field of study.
* Applicants must have experience in law enforcement fields and need to know law regarding criminal violations. Need to have experience writing detailed reports and assessing crime scenes. Applicants must have at least three years of this experience to sit for the exam.
* Applicants should be in good health, corrected or uncorrected vision, and hearing loss not to exceed 30 decibels.
* Any position above GS-5 requires more extensive work experience.
The TEA exam is comprised of the following subject elements:
* Mathematics
* Reading and comprehension
* Behavior
* Investigating reasoning
Applicants who prepare for the exam should focus on all four of these subjects. The mathematics portion of the exam usually creates the most problems for applicants. The study guides provide simulated tests that accurately depict the level of comprehension needed in all four areas in order to pass.
A 70% or better means a passing grade on the exam. If an applicant fails the first time, the Secret Service typically allows on re-test, unless the first score was terrible. Applicants are notified in writing through postal mail of their test score.
