The Texas Examinations for Master Teachers (TExMaT) offered by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) and Educational Testing Service (ETS) assesses a candidates scholastic aptitude in regards to their desired teaching subject in order for them to become master teachers in the eyes of the Texas government.
The Texas Examinations for Master Teachers Exams require candidates to meet certain eligibility requirements. For instance, candidates who want to site for the Master Reading Teacher (MRT) certification must have a teaching certificate and three years of experience. In addition, the candidate must successfully past the MRT test. Master Mathematics Teacher (MMT) requires the candidate to have a teaching certificate along with three years of experience. The candidate must also complete the MMT or MST test for the grade level they wish to teach. The Master Technology Teacher (MMT) requires the candidate to pass the MTT program and subsequent MTT test.
But even candidates who meet the requirement still need to have approval from their Educator Preparation Program (EPP) before being able to take their TExMaT test.
Registration for any TExMaT test costs $120 with an additional $15 processing fee at the time of registration. SBEC offers online registration options or via phone. Test centers administer the test using computer based technology. Candidates will need to arrive a half hour in advance on their scheduled test date in order to take the test. The tests are a combination of multiple choice and constructed response questions. Applicants will receive notification of pass or fail through regular mail correspondence.
