The 1-Minute Guide to the NCIDQ Study Guide

The National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) tests you to make sure that you have met the level of competency required in interior design practice.

Once you have passed the exam and earned your NCIDQ certificate, you will be considered a professional with a broad knowledge of all the areas involved in your profession.

To obtain your certificate, you firstly have to submit an application form to be reviewed by NCIDQ. If you don’t qualify, you’ll be advised about the specific weaknesses that led to your rejection so that you can ensure next time you apply, yo9ur weak areas are strong enough. If you have pass this ‘selection’ phase, you will then receive a notification that you are eligible to take the exam. You will then have to register online.

The NCIDQ exam itself is composed of 2 multiple choice sections and 1 practicum section. The exam covers 6 domains:
* Programming
* Schematic Design
* Design Development
* Contract Documents
* Contract Administration
* Professional Practice

You do have to pass the exam to obtain license in all the member jurisdictions of NCIDQ. This will also allow you to qualify as a member of professional interior design organizations, if you decide to join any. (If you are considering joining non-affiliates organizations, this will still serve as an individual achievement.)

Therefore, when you pass you will be recognized as a qualified practitioner and an expert in your field. You will also be assisted with any further developments regarding the area of interior design, to help you improve according to the standards of the profession.

Once you have passed the NCIDQ exam, the National Council will maintain your record for future reference.
